Digital Law Guidance Notes

Lawful Earning & Declaration

Income earned from overseas clients should enter Bangladesh through legal remittance channels. Keep contracts, invoices and bank or MFS records for every payment; they are the evidence of lawful earning and are required for loans, visas and any future audit.

Contracts & Non-payment

Always agree scope, deadline, revision count and payment terms in writing before starting work. Marketplace escrow protects most disputes; for direct clients, use milestone payments and never deliver final source files before final payment.

Copyright & Licensing

Using unlicensed fonts, images, music or code in client deliverables transfers legal risk to both you and your client. Keep a licence record for every asset used and hand it over with the delivery.

Speech, Defamation & Harassment

Online statements carry the same legal weight as printed ones. Avoid unverified allegations about individuals or institutions, and report harassment with preserved evidence rather than responding publicly.

Personal Data Responsibility

Freelancers routinely hold client customer data. Collect only what the job requires, store it encrypted, delete it after delivery, and never reuse a client's data for another project.

When to Consult a Lawyer

Any notice from an authority, any claim of a criminal offence, any dispute above a material amount, and any case involving a minor requires a licensed advocate. The Forum's guidance is awareness material only and never a substitute for legal representation.

Fact-Check & Rumour Verification

01

Pause before sharing

Most misinformation spreads because it is forwarded within seconds of being read. Waiting five minutes stops most of it.

02

Find the original source

Search the exact claim. If no established news organisation or official page carries it, treat it as unverified.

03

Check the image

Run a reverse image search. Recycled photographs from older or unrelated events are the most common form of visual misinformation.

04

Read past the headline

Headlines are written for clicks. Read the full item before forming or sharing a conclusion.

05

Verify official documents

Any notice, ID or certificate claiming to be from the Forum can be checked instantly in the Verification Centre.

06

Correct, don't amplify

If you shared something false, post a correction to the same audience instead of quietly deleting it.
